How do I file a claim?

It’s easy to file a claim in just three simple steps:

1) Pay for your pet’s treatment at the time of service.

2) Fax or mail our easy-to-use claim form along with your receipts.

3) After a $50 per-incident deductible, we reimburse you for 90% of the plan’s benefit schedule allowance.

If additional information is required to review a claim, VPI will send you a letter listing the medical record dates, laboratory reports or any specific medical history needed. As your pet’s owner, you have the authority to request this information from your veterinarian.

How does my veterinarian receive payment?

You pay your veterinarian directly at the time of service, then submit a claim to us. We adjust your claim and provide reimbursement to you.

Once I enroll, how long before my policy is effective?

There is a 14 day waiting period before you policy is approved.

Is there a list of veterinarians I can use?

You have the freedom to visit any licensed veterinarian worldwide. This means that you can choose the veterinarian you trust and feel most comfortable with.

Can I cancel my policy before the term is up?

You can cancel at any time by notifying VPI in writing. If you are not satisfied with your policy, VPI provides a money-back guarantee if we receive your written cancellation request within 10 days of your initial policy effective date.

How does the deductible work?

Our low $50 deductible applies to each different accident or illness per policy term. You may submit multiple claims for the same accident or illness (for example, your pet has an ear infection and requires follow-up visits), but only one deductible applies because it is related to the same incident.

What is a pre-existing condition?

A pre-existing condition is an injury or illness that was contracted, manifested or incurred on or before the effective date of your pet’s policy. For example, if at enrollment an applicant states, “I would like to enroll my 4-year old cat. He has a history of feline lower urinary tract disease,” the cat would be enrolled but the urinary tract disease would be considered pre-existing and therefore not covered under his policy.

Do you cancel a pet's policy because of their age?

No. As long as you enroll your pet before age 10 and keep your policy continuously in force, your pet will be covered—no matter how old.

Are prescriptions covered in my policy?

Yes, prescriptions for covered medical conditions are eligible for coverage.

Does my policy cover diagnostic testing?

Yes, when the medical condition is covered by the policy.

What are my payment options?

For your convenience, you may use a credit card, debit card or pay by check, also offered are monthly and annual payment options.

What if I don't know the exact age of my pets?

This happens frequently, especially with adopted pets. Simply get a physical exam from your veterinarian that includes an age estimate.

Are Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) injuries covered in my policy?

Yes, we offer ACL benefits when the policy has been in force for a minimum of 12 consecutive months prior to diagnosis and treatment.

Are medical history records required for enrollment?

Not ordinarily. VPI’s goal is to ensure that all policyholders receive the full benefit amount available under their policy plan. Sometimes we request medical records to clarify information.
